Heart disease causes most death in Cyprus

"Watch your heart" is the warning from medical authorities as World Heart Week
begins today.

In Cyprus, 30% of all deaths that occur every year are due to a form of
heart disease or cardiovascular disease, making them the leading cause
of death on the island.

 
 Heart disease and stroke are among the world's largest killers, together claiming 17.5 million lives each year.

The major causes of heart disease are tobacco use, physical inactivity, and an unhealthy diet.

Smoking continues to be one of the prime lifestyle choices contributing to the increased incidence of cardiovascular diseases globally. In fact many studies have shown quitting smoking may significantly reduce heart disease risk.
